Give your plants more than just nutrients. Insect Frass is a nutrient-rich organic bio-fertiliser and biological inoculant that helps feed plants while supporting beneficial microorganisms in the growing medium.

Produced in Victoria, Australia by Bardee, this premium frass is made from black soldier fly larvae castings using a controlled process that transforms food waste into a valuable growing input.

Naturally rich in slow-release nutrients, beneficial biology and plant-available chitin, Insect Frass is suitable for soil, potting mixes, coco and hydroponic growing systems.

Why Use Insect Frass?

  • Provides slow-release nitrogen for sustained plant nutrition
  • Supports healthy root development and vigorous plant growth
  • Helps improve nitrogen and phosphorus availability
  • Encourages beneficial microorganisms in the root zone
  • Contains naturally occurring chitin, which can help stimulate plants' natural defence responses
  • Supports increased plant biomass and healthy fruit development
  • Contains beneficial bacteria, fungi and protozoa
  • Suitable for soil, coco and hydroponics

Application Rates

Garden Beds
Apply 100–250g per m² and gently incorporate into the soil before planting. Apply again once seedlings are established. Add mulch over the surface to help retain moisture.

Top Dressing
Sprinkle approximately one handful around the root zone and water thoroughly to activate.

Fertigation / Root Drench
Mix 2 tablespoons per 9L of water and apply to the root zone.

Potting Mix
Mix at 1.5–2%, or approximately 15–20mL per litre of potting media.

Hydroponics
Can be top-dressed directly onto growing media such as coco, rockwool and hydroton.

  • Add ½ cup per 100L of water
  • Strain before use in drip irrigation systems
  • For best results, brew an Insect Frass Tea for approximately 24 hours
  • Can be added directly to the reservoir in flood-and-drain systems
